MY FAVORITE RIDES

They were driving a runaway stage coach in the movies. The El Camino I won at the NASCAR Summer Nationals. My present day CTS and most of all my DeLorean - I know - lose the hat though.

DARTH VADER

Not knowing that leather shrinks to nothingness in a fire, I thought this was the baddest Star Wars look going. With a black Tony Nancy face mask, black jacket and one way mirrorised goggle lenses.

RACE TRACKS

Some of those early venues were even DIRT tracks. The top one was wide enough to run four dragsters at one time, the lower right was so narrow I could reach out and touch Garlits in the lights - and it was ROUGH...!!!

COMPETITION

I raced anything from Go Karts to Jet Cars. I was the first one to race one of those jet puppies and they told me I'd get cooked. So I mounted skewers on the roll bar, with marshmallows and wieners!

DIRT BIKES DURING THE WINTER BREAK

Prudhomme, Safford and Don Moody talked me into buying a dirt bike. Kenny ran into the side on me right off the bat! Give me 4 wheels and a roll bar. I sold the bike the next day!

BEST MAN

My buddy Dale Nohre asked me to be his best man. WRONG...!!! I got a wooden chain gang ball and strapped it to his ankle when he said - I DO...!!! Inez, my wife, Tom McCourry I laughed with everyone all day.

BODY'S & BLOWERS

Losing a blower on a dragster was bad, but funny cars usually also took the roof off, as on this one at Epping NH. I didn't even have time to paint the front of the car after the last crash there.

FAR OUT MAN

...as Jungle Jim use to say. A fan sent me this - in the old days, I'd have probably tried to duplicate it. We used to put ground up glass in the paint and it would shimmer at night, but it was HEAVY!

WHAT MY CARS SELL FOR

Prudhomme's funny car and my Bruce Larson owned car both sold for $250,000 at the Mecum auction (I had sold it for $2,000 when I dumped it originally). I took a step back when I heard what it sold for in today's market...

I originally sold the Wagon Master for $40,000. It sold again for $500,000. Then the pair sold for $385.000. But the pair below sold for $600,000. They nearly found me lying in a pool of blood when I heard that...!!!

JAY LENO

Ignore the fact that my shirt looked like it has a heavy coat of moss growing on it, it made me proud to have Jay ask for MY autograph. He did a review of my book with me on his JAY LENO'S GARAGE show.
